Forum subscriptions (email)

I am experimenting with several different types of "forum subscription" programs. Please do not subscribe at this time, as I may be swapping software to get a combination that works effectively. Right now, the "subscriptions" module is active and seems to work to send email from the site to the user, but cannot accept incoming email. The "notifications" module does something similar, but hooks into the 'web mail' application which does process incoming email, so I may be switching over to that. If I do, any existing subscriptions will be lost.

You can now get emails of new forum posts, updates and comments. Well, most of the time... the module that adds this feature is no longer actively maintained, so it contains some bugs. But, it does send email to let you know when something new is posted.

To subscribe to content, click on "Add Subscription" in the Navigation menu.

  • Click on "Content Type."
  • Select either "HTML Mail" (text includes formatting) or "Plain Text Mail" (no formatting, just the text).
  • Select the content types to subscribe to:
    • Forum topic: forum posts and comments.
    • Book pages: formal documentation on the main site.
    • Pages: Administrative comments, usually concerning site function.
    • Story: Articles that are not part of the RS2 documentation.
    • Video: Any new video presentations.

Click on "Create Subscription". At this point, you will receive emails when new content is posted, or existing content is updated. Repeat for as many content types as you wish.

To change your notification settings

  • Click on "My Account" (top right in the logo bar).
  • Click on the "Notifications" tab.
  • Click on "Subscriptions".
  • Select the appropriate action from the drop-down box, and hit "Update."
